KINGSTON, Jamaica – Several events are showing poor or no entries for this weekend’s Jamaica Junior Championships.
Among the events yet to attract entries are the Under-20 women’s 3,000m; Under-20 men’s 10,000; Under-20 men’s 2,000m steeplechase; Under-20 women’s 2,000m steeplechase and Under-20 men’s triple jump.
The Under-20 girls’ triple jump and the Under-18 women’s javelin throw have also failed to attract entries.
Events with one entry each are the Under-18 men’s javelin throw, Under-18 boys’ 3,000m and the Under-20 women’s triple jump.
The boys Under-18 400m hurdles only have Jaheel Hyde and Kimani Henry, a similar situation with the Under-20 boys’ high jump with Christoffe Bryan and Davonne Beckford.
Surprisingly, the discus and shot put events are among the best-supported events at the trials.
The Under-18 boys’ shot put has attracted14 athletes, while the Under-18 girls’ discus has 11 entries.
The Under-18 boys’ 400m has attracted 20 entries, the Under-20 boys’ 200m has 17 entries, the Under-18 girls’ 100m has 17 entries and Under-20 boys’ 100m has attracted 15.
