Barbadian twins Tania and Tia Applewhite were in record-breaking forms on the weekend (22-23 Feb) at Saturday’s Louis Lynch Championships in Barbados.
Both Rising Stars Club athletes, Tania 12.98 and Tia 13.06, went below the meet record in the U13 girls’ 100m dash. The previous mark was 13.47.
In the 200m, both again went below the previous record of 26.94 with Tia coming out on top in 26.51. Tania was second in 26.94.
Josiah Gill (Velocity Management), 10-year-old, set a new record of 50.60 in the U11 girls’ 300m. Khalil Bryan (Rising Stars) with 51.15 also went below the previous record of 57.14.
Gill also ran 22.00 to break the previous 150m record of 22.94.
Kishawna Niles (PRO) also set a new record in the U17 girls’ 100m of 12.05. She beat 12.25 set back in 2011.
Jamaica Gill (PRO) ran 10.92 to win the U17 boys’ final.
Ashlee Lowe (EDP) 11.96 beat her teammate Rickyla Fagan 12.08 in the women’s 100m final while Julian Forde 10.53 beat Mikhail Carvalho, 10.74 for the senior male title.
Pierre Beckles (Rising Stars) won the women’s 100m hurdles in 13.86. Adeyah Brewster was second in 14.56.
Jadon Pearce (Rising Star) ran 14.82 to top the U17 boys’ 110m hurdles ahead of Elisha Harding (Pro) 15.72.
The U20 boys’ 110m hurdles went to Haile-Emanuel Turney (Rising Star) in 14.65 ahead of Alpha Nerd (Pro) 15.10
Rhys Phillips (TTFC) ran 14.41 in the men’s open 110m hurdles.
19-year-old Rhea Hoyte (Quantum Leap)won the women’s 400m in 56.34 over Sakena Messiah (EDP) 56.88
Miguel Nicholas (PRO) was the men’s 400m winner in 48.00.
