Olympic Games 100m silver medallist Richard "Torpedo" Thompson, has ended his 2015 season. This was a decision made by both Thompson and Dr. Anyl Gopeesingh. Thompson got hurt at the Trinidad & Tobago Trials last weekend and was forced to miss the men's 100m final.

Peter Samuels, PRO of the Trinidad and Tobago Federation, released a statement saying "Richard Thompson along with many other athletes were screened by a medical team led by Dr. Anyl Gopeesingh. After the screening, a decision was taken between Dr. Gopeesingh and Mr. Thompson for him to sit out the rest of the 2015 track season due to a recurring injury which has been interfering with his day to day training. This will give him more time to recuperate and prepare for the Olympics in Rio 2016."

Thompson, 30, who from an early age has impacted the Trinidad and Tobago sprint team, was the 2007 NACAC champion over the 100M. He has 2 Olympic silver and a bronze medal and has made the World Championship and Olympic Games finals on four occasions.

He is his country's 5-time National Champion and 100m record holder. "Torpedo" is ranked number 21 in the men's 100m, has a personal best of 9.82s and has won the Diamond League meeting on three occasions. He is seen as a very valuable part of the Trinidad and Tobago sprint family.
