Tokyo 2020

Two athletes residing in the Olympic Village for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics here have tested positive for COVID-19, organisers have confirmed.

The competitors are the first athletes to return positive tests for the virus while staying at the Village. Tokyo 2020 confirmed the two athletes were from the same country and sport.

Athletics Australia has confirmed that all ten members of their Olympic track and field training camp in Cairns have tested negative. The tests were done after a reported positive for a staff member put the squad on lockdown.

The staff member has since produced two more conclusive negative results, and the initial one was pronounced “inconclusive”.

Six members of Great Britain’s athletics team for the Tokyo Olympics have been forced into isolation after a passenger on their flight to Japan tested positive for coronavirus.

The six athletes, who have not been identified, and two staff members have been deemed close contacts of the individual in question, who is not from the Team GB delegation.
