AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn track and field will host the fifth annual Tiger Track Classic on Friday and Saturday at the Hutsell-Rosen Track. Competition is slated to begin Friday at 2 p.m. CT with the men’s hammer throw, while Saturday’s action will get underway at 11 a.m. CT.
“I am excited for this weekend as it looks like we will have great weather,” head coach Ralph Spry said. “We will have about 15 teams here including some SEC schools, so this will be an early test for us. We had a good opening weekend on both the men’s and women’s side. This is our first home meet, so there won’t be any travel and we will be well rested. We had some quality performances last weekend that should get into the NCAA Preliminaries, and I hope to have more qualifying marks this weekend.”
The No. 21 women’s team was led by juniors Rachel Dincoff and Jessie Johnson last weekend. Johnson broke her school record in the pole vault at the Texas Relays with a clearance of 13-11.25/4.25m. Dincoff claimed the shot put title at the Alabama Invitational with a throw of 53-7/16.33m and finished runner-up in the discus with a personal-best throw of 171-6/52.27m. Freshman Mackenzie Holmes-Digiovine placed fourth in the discus at 154-3/47.02m.
In the long jump, sophomore Marshay Ryan finished second at 19-8/5.99m, and freshman Dominique Bullock took fourth at 19-6/5.95m.
On the men’s side, the 4×100 relay team of Torrey Campbell, Kahlil Henderson, Joe Fisher and Teray Smith finished sixth at the Texas Relays with a time of 40.26. In the 4×200 relay, Campell, Fisher, Henderson and Smith placed seventh at 1:25.14.
Junior Redatu Semeon ran the conference’s leading time in the 3000m steeplechase at the Raleigh Relays with a time of 9:07.28, a new personal record.
