Elaine Thompson opened her 2017 season with victory over 60 metres at Saturday’s (Jan 28) Queens Grace Invitational meet at the National Stadium.

Thompson, who got off to a explosive start, powered across the line in 7.02 seconds (+1.7m/s wind).

The Olympic Games sprint double champion said it’s a new personal best and she is happy with the result.

Christania Williams, who recently signed with Puma, finished second in 7.05 and Audra Segree of SprintTech, third in 7.27.

In the men’s event, Julian Forte won the short sprint in 6.55 seconds, the wind +1.3m/s. Kevean Smith (6.60) and Michael Campbell (6.63) were second and third respectively.
