Elaine Thompson-Herah, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, and Shericka Jackson will line up against each other again for the third time in less than a month. This time it will be at the Lausanne Diamond League in Switzerland.
Thompson-Herah won the Olympic Games 100m title ahead of Fraser-Pryce and Jackson. She repeated, finishing ahead of the two Jamaicans, with a stunning 10.54 seconds in Eugene last weekend at the ninth leg of the Diamond League. Thompson-Herah is the second-fastest woman ever behind American Florence Griffith Joyner’s (Flo-Jo) 10.49.
Jamaica’s Olympic champion Hansle Parchment is down to contest the men’s 110m hurdles event. He will be accompanied by Tokyo 2020 games bronze medallist Ronald Levy and Rasheed Broadbell, coming off a victory in Hungary on Tuesday.
Americans Devon Allen and Daniel Roberts, and Andrew Pozzi should provide stiff competition for the Jamaicans.
Steven Gardiner, the third Tokyo 2020 gold medallist from the Caribbean down to run, will face the start in the men’s 200m. He will have American Kenneth Bednarek, who ran 19.68 this season, and Fred Kerley, who ran 19.90. Gardiner’s best season is 20.24.
The women’s 400m hurdles will have Jamaicans Janieve Russell, fourth in Tokyo, and Leah Nugent. However, the big two will be former world record holder and Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Dalilah Muhammad and Femke Bol, who was also on the podium in Tokyo.
British Virgin Islands’ Chantel Malone, season-best of 7.08m, is the best in the women’s long jump. Ivana Spanovic is the next this season in the field with 7.00m.
Norwegian world 400m hurdles record holder and Olympic Games champion Karsten Warholm is down to run the men’s 400m. He will face Americans Vernon Norwood and Wilbert London, along with Isaac Makwala of Botswana.
The women’s 400m will have Jamaican Candice McLeod and Barbadian Sada Williams.
Jamaican triple jumpers Shanieka Ricketts and Kimberly Williams both return to action after missing out on the medals in Tokyo. Olympic Games champion Yulimar Rojas will also be there.
Ryan Crouser of the USA will lead the shot putters, including Tomas Walsh of New Zealand and Jose Kovacs, also of the USA.
