The 4th annual Team Jamaica Bickle/Awesome Power 5K Run will take place this Saturday, October 18 at the Baisley Pond Park in Queens, New York. The annual event held under the theme; “Promoting Healthy Lifestyles,” is expected to attract runners and walkers from across the tri-state and is a USATF sanctioned event.

The day which begins at 7:00 am, will open with registration before kicking off with the 5K Walk, followed by a one mile youth run and climaxing with the marquis event, the 5K Run. The top male and female finishers in the 5K Run will gain automatic entry to the reggae marathon with air and hotel included.

Team Jamaica Bickle’s partnership with Awesome Power Track Club goes back many years as both have aligned interest in the growth and development of student athletes in the US as well as across the Caribbean, primarily Jamaica. Staging a 5K, seemed like a natural ‘next-step,’ and gives both organizations additional opportunities to engage the communities which they serve. The event has grown tremendously in its three years and its fourth promises even more.  Winners have performed creditably at the Reggae Marathon, held annually in Negril. In 2013, Brittany Sheffey, TJB 5K winner, went on to win the 10K at the Reggae Marathon.  The partnership with the annual Reggae Marathon is also entering its fourth year and is one that both organizations are extremely proud.

Team Jamaica Bickle has also received a boost from (IdEA), the International Daspora Engagement Alliance. IdEA is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that promotes and supports initiatives in countries and regions of diaspora origin.  A public-private partnership between the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and Calvert Foundation, its support puts the 5K squarely in front of the eyeballs of thousands.

Online registration is still open at www.tjb5k.com and may also be done on the day of the event. For more information race director Sean Phillips may be reached at : 718.724.3889.
