EUGENE, Oregon – Regional Athletes and Coaches of the Year for the 2016 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field season were announced Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Each of the nine regions – which are the same as those used during the cross country season – honored both genders’ top track athletes and field athletes, and the top men’s and women’s head coaches and assistant coaches.

Grand Canyon’s Tarasue Barnett is named Women’s Field Athlete of the Year in the West Region. Barnett has the nation’s third-best mark in the discus, 201-8 (61.28m).

She was named Female Field Athlete at WAC Championships after winning league titles in the shot put and discus at the league meet. Grand Canyon is in transition to Division I and is not eligible for the NCAA postseason.
