EUGENE, USA – Shericka Jackson has received several praises from the international track and field fraternity after her scintillating World Athletics Championships Oregon22 women’s 200-meter performance on Thursday (21 July).
The time bettered the Jamaican record of 21.53 set by Elaine Thompson-Herah to win the Olympics in 2021; the Championship record of 21.63 run by Dafne Schippers in 2015 and is a Hayward Field and USA all-comers record.
“Shericka!! Whew! Taking the deuce to new levels!!,” tweeted American superstar Allyson Felix.
Yohan Blake, Deagu 2011 world 100-meter champion and the second fastest man ever, wrote: “Magnificent running from Shericka. Shelly was brilliant also. I know Elaine will be back.”
Juliet Cuthbert-Flynn, who won double silver at the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992, also commented: “Jamaica has the fastest man in the world, Jamaica has the fastest living woman in the 100 meters and the fastest living woman in the 200 meters. We are what greatness is made of. A great country. Cuthbert-Flynn is also a Minister of State in the Ministry of Health in Jamaica.
Jackson ran a speedy corner, only beaten by Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce for the first 100 meters, 11.03 to 11.04. However, the former Vere Technical student killed the last 100, which was timed in 10.41.
“Shericka’s last 100 was ridiculous,” said Jeremy Wariner, who himself is a legend of the sport.
Emmanuel Chinedum Acho, a former Nigerian-American linebacker, commented on the performance. “The fastest living woman in the 100 is Jamaican – Elaine Thompson; the fastest living woman in the 200 meters is Jamaican – Shericka Jackson. There’s something special in that curry goat! I gotta go back to Jamaica.”
Jon Mulkeen, track and field journalist, said, “She also becomes the first woman to break 21.70 three times in one season (21.45, 21.55, 21.67).”
Jackson’s MVP club also pointed out the important statistic of her performance. “Let us state this fact without fear of contradiction. Shericka Jackson is the first and only person to win medals in the 100 meters (silver), 200 meters (gold), 400 meters (bronze x2), 4x100m (gold), 4×400 meters (gold & bronze) at the World Championships! Excellence personified is Shericka Jackson. MVP!”
