The Morant Bay Relays, originally scheduled for this weekend, has been scratched from the 2016 athletic calendar.
This leaves the athletes and coaches, who normally journey to the eastern parish, no option but to seek other avenues, to build and maintain their competitive advantage, plus qualify for Champs.
The North Central Development meet in Discovery Bay, St Ann, the Central Hurdles and Relays on the new track at the GC Foster Collegeor the Mckenley/Wint Invitational at Calabar, also boasting a new facility, will all provide suitable alternatives.
Lack of adequate sponsorship was the main cause for the cancellation of the aforementioned event. It has been a very important link in the chain of athletic events. In that it prepares athletes for McCook/Gibson Relays (February 27 ) which in turn sharpens them for the ISSA/GRACEKENNEDY Boys and Girls Championships (March 15-19).
