St. Lucian Julien Alfred, representing the University of Texas Athletics, kicked off the Texas Invitational with a resounding victory in the 100m event, crossing the finish line in 10.95 (+1.8) and setting the stage for a day filled with outstanding performances.
Jamaican runners Kevona Davis and Ashanti Moore put up a strong fight. They finished in second and third place, respectively, completing the race in 11.14 seconds.
Meanwhile, in the men’s triple jump competition, Jamaican athlete O’Brien Waysome emerged as the winner with a jump of 16.80 meters, beating Jeremiah Davis of Florida State, who managed a 16.01m jump.
The women’s 400m race saw Olympic medalist Gabby Thomas achieve a personal best of 49.68, securing first place. Lynna Irby-Jackson finished in second with a time of 50.40, while Charokee Young, also from Jamaica, secured third place with a time of 50.64.

Sondre Guttormsen, the European indoor champion, also made waves by clearing the Norwegian outdoor record and world lead in pole vaulting with an impressive jump of 590.
Ivory Coast’s Ismael Kone posted a speedy 9.98 (+2.7) in the 100m race, adding to the many notable performances at the Texas Invitational.
Sharika Nelvis emerged victorious in the women’s 100m hurdles, clocking in at 13.05 and beating Alexis Duncan, who finished at 13.17. In the men’s high hurdles competition, Kendrick Smallwood secured first place with a time of 13.70, edging out Bashiru Abdullahi, who came in second with a time of 13.71.
