Jeremy Farr won the men’s 400m on Friday’s (14 Feb) opening day of the Tyson Invitational at Randal Tyson Track Center, Fayetteville, Arkansas.
The former Wolmer’s Boys’ School standout Farr, representing the University of Arkansas, ran 46.05 to take the top spot in the men’s 400m. He beat Randolph Ross of North Carolina, 46.14.
“In my recent races I haven’t been going out fast enough,” said Farr, who has an outdoor best of 45.65. “So, today was about doing things coach asked me do. Today was the first time I did that, and I got the time I wanted.
“I’m very pleased. I didn’t expect to be the overall winner, but I’m happy I was. It means I’m in the league with those guys now. That’s where I know I can be, so I’m extremely happy.”
Farr’s effort is fifth-best on the collegiate list this season and moves him to No. 8 on the Arkansas all-time indoor list.
In another 400m race, American Vernon Norwood won in 46.23 ahead of George Caddick of Great Britain, 47.09
Jamaican Damion Thomas, representing LSU, was third in the men’s 60m hurdles in 7.68. He finished behind his teammate Eric Edwards, 7.61 and Jaylan McConico of Iowa, 7.60s.
In the men’s invitational long jump, Bahamian Holland Martin, 7.80m finished 3rd. JuVaughn Harrison of LSU, 8.11m and Ja’Mari Ward of Missouri, 7.81m were the top two jumpers.
Amber Anning of LSU ran 52.22 to beat American seniors Shamier Little, 52.55 and Cassandra Tate, 53.03 in the women’s 400m.
Cambrea Sturgis of North Carolina ran 7.17 to win the women’s 60m dash. She won ahead of Thelma Davies of LSU, 7.23 and Amira Young of Minnesota, 7.29.
Jaylan Mitchell of North Carolina topped the men’s 60m dash in 6.59.
LSU’s pair of Tonea Marshall 7.89 and Alia Armstrong 7.95 were the top two finishers in the women’s 60m hurdles.
