Jamaican juniors warmed up for the CARIFTA Games scheduled for the Easter weekend in Kingston, Jamaica, with some creditable performances on Saturday, 12 March 2022 (Day 3) at the country’s qualifying meet (CARIFTA Trials).

The marquee event was the 100m, which featured a few stars on the rise. Leading the way were the Clayton twins, who were almost inseparable at the finish line, with Tia edging Tina by one-hundredth of a second 11.49 to 11.50, running into a negative headwind of -1.6 m/s.
The twins’ fellow teammates, Serena Cole (11.51) and Kerica Hill (11.59), from the world U20 4x100m record-breaking team, were third and fourth.

In the boys’ equivalent, world U20 relay silver medallists, Bryan Levell and Sandrey Davison were upstaged by Deandre Daley, who came storming through the middle to win in 10.32 (-1.6 m/s). Levell held on for second in 10.36 ahead of the fleet-footed Bouwahjgie Nkrumie (10.40) and Davison (10.43).
World U20 finalist Oneika McAnuff did not break sweat in the one-lap finals as she jogged around the track unchallenged and stopped the clock at 53.15 seconds.
Kaylia Kelly was the best of the rest as she came home in 54.09 seconds. It was anti-climactic in the boys’ U20 section, with Delano Daley winning by more than half a second in 46.97 seconds.
Cedricka Williams launched the discus 50.04m to kill the competition stone dead. Christopher Young took the boys’ section after sailing the disc beyond 57m, more than 2m further than Kobe Lawrence, who reached 55.36m.
In the high jump, Annisjka McDonald cleared 1.78m on her second attempt to take the girls’ U20 section.
