CALI, Colombia (August 5) — Jamaica’s women set a new 4x100m world U20 record on Friday, Day 5, at the World Athletics U20 Championships 2022.

The team, led off by Serena Cole to Tina Clayton, Kerrica Hill, and Tia Clayton, on anchor, took Jamaica across the line in 42.56 seconds. The same quartet held the previous world record of 42.94, which they ran in Nairobi last year.

“It’s a great feeling,” said Tina Clayton, the 100m champion, who spoke on behalf of the team. “We are grateful that we came out here and ran a world record,” she added.

USA finished a distant second but managed to grab the silver medal with a new national U20 record of 43.28. At the same time, Colombia secured the bronze medal at 44.59.

Who win the men’s 4x100m at the World U20 Championships in Cali?

On the men’s side, defending champion South Africa crossed the line first but got disqualified for a lane violation.

Japan moved up to first and Jamaica second. Both teams recorded the same time, 39.35 secs.

The United States, which initially finished off the podium in fourth, moved up to the bronze place with a time of 39.57 after the South Africans were disqualified.

The Jamaica team consisted of Adrian Kerr, Bouwahjgie Nkrumie, Mark-Anthony Daley and Bryan Levell.
