The IT DAT ACADEMY’S Annual Track and Field Summer Camp has ended.
The Camp, in its 5th year, attracted 52 participants, with the focus being on general conditioning and introduction to the Hurdles.
In addition, participants were exposed to the principles of Farming and were given motivational talks by various speakers.
Michael Ollivierre, the head of It Dat Track Club, said the objectives of the camp were “to introduce the sport to the young, new ones; to expose participants to the principles of hurdling; to begin early preparation phase for the more mature athletes; expose them to the principles of Farming and Gardening.”
In the end, the former Jamaica team coach, said it was a success “We had 52 participants ages 8 to 20 over the six-week period. We did a gardening project at the Sports Complex…..and planted egg-plants/Tomatoes and Cabbage on a plot of land made available. Think I have unearthed some Hurdlers.”
Continuing, he added, “Brandon Valentine-Parris is our first Olympian having participated at Rio Olympic Games, while 800m runner, Kasique Oliver, is off on a Track Scholarship to Munroe College in New York.”
However, after much success, Ollivierre further stated there’s “still no support from the governing body.”
The National Lotteries Authority, Tus-T Water and Webb Schoolboy Beer sponsored the Camp, which lasted six weeks.
