The 11th staging of the International Meeting Region de Guadeloupe, despite the problems faced, takes centre stage in the city of Baie-Mahault on Saturday, May 2.
On Wednesday news of cancellation was rumored, then possible ban for athletes who take part, but with those now out of the way, Meet Director, Julien Dellan, was pleased to welcome athletes in Guadeloupe.
During Friday’s (1 May) press conference, which was attended by several athletes – among them World and Olympic long jump champion Brittney Reese, former world 100m record holder Asafa Powell and former world 100m champion Kim Collins – Dellan expressed his delight.
“Your presence here today show how involved you are in this meeting,” he said of the athletes.
“I hope that tomorrow the performances of this meeting will be high,” added Dellan, while adding, “it’s very important for the meet.”
Dellan also used the opportunity to thank all those who made the event possible, particularly the sponsors and volunteers.
