KINGSTON, Jamaica – Olympic Bronze medalist over 110M hurdles, Hansle Parchment is set to continue his preparations for the business end of the 2015 season at the 14th staging of the University of the West Indies (UWI) Track and Field Invitational Meet on Saturday, March 21 at the UWI/Usain Bolt Track.
Parchment had an early season showing for the University of the West Indies running in the heats of the Clubs and Institutions 4x400M Relays at the Gibson McCook Relays and will line up in the 400M event as he looks to continue his preparations for the Jamaican National Senior Championships.
“The main focus at this point is to maintain fitness and go through the early portions of the season injury free. I trust the instructions of my coach, Fitz Coleman and by working with him I am looking forward to a positive season. I also have to really commend Grace Kennedy and Puma for their support as they have shown great confidence in me in what was a tough time as I recovered from injury,” said Parchment.
Parchment will be hoping to get back to his brilliant best in 2015 and continue an impressive trend of improving his best with each season. After bursting on the scene in 2011, clocking 13.24s to win gold at the World University Games in China, the dynamic hurdler then lowered that mark in 2012 clocking 13.12s in the final of the 110M hurdles at the London Olympics to win bronze. The trend continued again in 2013 when Parchment lowered his best yet again to 13.05s before shocking the world in 2014 dipping below the 13s barrier with 12.94s at the Paris Diamond League meeting.
Already with the joint 10th fastest mark of all-time over the 110M hurdles event Parchment will turn his attentions to the World Championships later this year and the Olympics to come in 2016. The University of the West Indies Psychology major, will be looking to maintain his impressive trend of improved times each year which would surely put him in contention to cop an Olympic medal.
Hansle Parchment is expected to line up in the 400M race at the UWI Invitational Meet comeSaturday, March 21 at the UWI/Usain Bolt Track. The meet is expected to be quite a spectacle as athletes continue preparations ahead of the National Senior Championships in June and the World Championships in Beijing in August.
The meet has been a staple of the Jamaican track and field calendar and has attracted athletes such as Usain Bolt, Yohan Blake and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce over the years.
