EUGENE (USA): African Athletics United is reporting that some athletes, including Gina Bass, are dealing with visa issues which could prevent them from competing at the World Athletics Championships Oregon22.
“While some African teams have already arrived or are on their way to Oregon, others are still stranded in their training base, unsure whether they’ll get a US visa in time to take part at the World Championships.
“This is the case for several athletes currently based in France, including 100 meters African champion Gina Bass of the Gambia.
“Gina made history by becoming the first athlete from the Gambia to reach a World Championships final in 2019 in Doha (sixth in the 200 meters) but is at risk of missing Oregon22.”
Meanwhile, visa trouble has hit the Kenyan squad to the World Championships set to start on Friday, Kenyan media report. The athletes affected by the delay include African 100-meter record holder and champion Ferdinand Omanyala, who is set for 100-meter preliminaries on Friday.
