Anya Friday, winner of the 400m and 800m at the Antigua and Barbuda Coca-Cola Inter-Schools Championships last weekend (March 4-6), spoke with TrackAlerts.com after her success at the Yasco Sports Complex in St. John’s, Antigua.

Having lived up to her name on Friday, the opening day, by qualifying for the finals, she won the 400m in 62.90 and 800m in 2:45.19. She was also a member of her Princess Margaret Secondary winning 4x400m open relay team.

TrackAlerts.com’s writer Anthony Foster caught up with Friday and asked her some questions on the background that athletes in Antigua don’t train enough because of the lack of interest.

Question: First of all, let me ask, how do you feel to win two individual events, and the help your team’s 4x400m to victory?

Answer: “It felt good. I didn’t know if I was going to win, but I tried my best and I did it, so I would like to thank everybody that helped me.  I have to single out my coach who prepared for me this and my parents who are very supportive.

Q: What will you do now with Inter-Schools Champs out of the way?
A: I will now train for Nationals and I hope to be success as well”

Q: How hard to you work?
A: I train very hard, just to be on top and hopefully I will be on top in the future

Q: Do you find track and field training hard?
A: Yes, its very hard because of the programs you have to do at training, especially when you don’t know how to do it and have to try hard to get it done.

Q: Where do you see yourself in another five years?
A: I see myself as a nurse

Q: Do you plan to continue running track and field, if yes, where would you want to be in another five years?
A: Yes, I see myself going far and I want to go as far as possible to make my family proud

Q: Do you plan to remain in Antigua or you would want to attend University overseas?
A: Yes, I plan to get a sponsorship and attend university overseas
