The statue of Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was unveiled in Statue Park at Independence Park, Kingston.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness and Minister of Sport, Olivia Grange unveiled the statue during a ceremony, which was attended by the athletics family, ministers, and members of the public, on Sunday, 14 October 2018
“Thank you so much fans for sharing this memorable moment with me,” said Fraser-Pryce.
“The journey continues as I will continue to allow God to use me,” shared Fraser-Pryce after the event.
The bronze statue — to the scale of one and quarter life size — was designed by renowned sculptor Basil Watson.
The actual Shelly-Ann Statue, height to hand is eight feet; height to head – seven feet; front to back – five feet, six inches; diameter of base – 21 inches; and height of base – three inches.
The statue in honour of Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce is the second completed under the Programme. The first statue (of Usain Bolt) was completed and installed last December.
The remaining statues — of Veronica Campbell-Brown and Asafa Powell — are now in the design stage.
