Jamaica’s Queen of Sprints, Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce, secured a comfortable win at the Atletica Mondiale meeting in Padova, Italy, on Sunday (17). Fraser-Pryce, who led from about 25m kept her form and composure to lead to the finish.

The discomfort in body language that has been evident since her very recent toe injury, was missing, and that will come as a relief to many fans looking forward to her defending her Olympic title at the Rio Olympics next month. The “Pocket Rocket” as she is affectionately called won in a time of 11.25secs. Second in the race was Jeneba Tarmoh (11.47secs) USA and third went to fellow Jamaican, Shimayra Campbell, 11.54secs, of UTECH.

Stephenie-Ann Mcpherson was also dominant in her 400m race, winning in a solid time of 50.98 secs. Running out of Lane 3, McPherson exercised control of the race for the first 300 meters, which saw her coming off the curve first. She led comfortably to the finish ahead of Ukraine’s Olha Zemlyak (51.18 secs SB) and Marla Chigbolu (52.01 secs SB).

National senior champion at the shot put, O’Dayne Richards, threw his second best mark for 2016 to win the gold. Richards who fouled on his final attempt, still managed to win in 20.78m done on his fifth attempt. Recovering from leg surgery, he managed to throw over 20m on all his legal attempts.

Second in the event, was Mateusz Mikos (POL) with 19.56m and third was Sebastiano Bianchetti (ITA) in 18.72m.
