Shantae Foreman won Jamaica’s first medal of the 2018 Carifta Games, being staged at the Thomas A Robinson Stadium in Nassau, Bahamas.
The Excelsior High School athlete cleared 1.74 metres to take the top spot in the Under-17 girls’ high jump final.
Vanessa Mercera (CUW) took silver with 1.71m while bronze went to M’Kayla White (BAH) with 1.65m
Trinidad and Tobago’s Veayon Joseph topped the U17 boys’ javelin throw with 55.92 ahead of Keyshawn Strachan of Bahamas, 50.14m.
In the U17 girls’ Shot-put final, Thamera Manette, of Martinique threw 14.51 metres for gold, beating Grenadian Kelsie Murrel-Ross 14.14m and Dominican Treneese Hamilton, 13.14.
