PORTLAND, USA – Decathlon star and IAAF World Athlete of the Year Ashton Eaton confirmed he defend his World Indoor heptathlon title in Portland, USA next March.

"We're going to definitely do that. It's a great lead-in to the outdoor season. Portland is where I was born. I've never done (a multi-event competition) there. I'm excited we don't have to travel very far, and the fans there can get exposed to some big-time track and field," he confirmed in an interview with Portland Tribune.

Eaton also spoke about the future year 2017 and London World Championships: "I'd like to compete there. I get a "bye" to the competition. But I don't want to make any promises," Eaton, who broke the outdoor record at the Beijing World Championships in August, said.

"It's a hard decision to make. It would be cool to go to London and close the books. I love this sport, but I have to wait until after the 2016 Games. It's hard to describe. I need to check my mindset after that kind of stressful and magnificent experience," said the 2015 World champion.
