Jamaica opened its medal account at the 20th World Masters Athletics Championships on in Lyon, France with a gold medal courtesy of Winston Chambers in the Men’s 45 400M Hurdles which he won in 56.86. He finished ahead of Antoine Abatucci of France and Brad Dittmar of the USA.
Gavin Shand bowed out in the semi-finals of the Men’s 35 200M clocking a time of 23.56 while Gleneta Kenyon, though not winning a medal, completed the Women’s 60 10,000M in a Personal Best time of 57:08:07.
Tomorrow, Wednesday, August 12, Gavin Shand is set to compete in first round heats of the Men’s 35 400M while on Friday, Olympic and World Championships silver medallist James Beckford will do battle in the Men’s 45 Long Jump. On Sunday, August 16, 2015, Gleneta Kenyon will take the field in the Women’s 60 Half Marathon.
Over 8, 000 athletes from 98 counties are competing at the Championships which will end on August 16.
