Defending champions Calabar and Edwin Allen High School are the pre-championships favourites to retain their team titles at the 2016 Boys and Girls’ Champs, which gets underway this week.

This is according to the annual prediction magazine, which released its 2016 Champs Preview last Friday.

The five-day championships, which is the biggest and certainly, the most entertaining high school champs in the world, will run from Tuesday, 15 March to Saturday, 19 March.

On the boys’ side, Calabar are being backed to repeat as champs by 34-points and the prominent all-male powerhouse is expected to get the better of Kingston College.

Should the famous magazine gets its prediction accurate this season, it would means Calabar would lift the Mortimer Geddes Trophy for the fifth consecutive time and seventh since breaking Kingston College’s strong hold on the title in 2006.

The Calabar charges are expected to be led by talented sprinter Christopher Taylor, who, as expected, has been predicted to clean things up in Class Two, seeing that he’s the overwhelming favourite to dominate his rivals in the 200m and 400m

The Class Two Boys 4x100m relay team, which will also include Taylor, who ran a blistering personal best of 10.44 seconds for the 100m earlier this season — is also expected to secure maximum points from that event.

Meanwhile, KC will be hoping to land their hand on the trophy for the first time since 2009.

In the girls’ contest, Edwin Allen are expected to dominate again in the race for the title.

The defending champions blew away their rivals last year to win by 100 points over Hydel, and although it is unlikely their winning margin will be that huge this season, it’s also difficult to look past them being dethroned.

Edwin Allen High School have won the last two champs titles and three of the last four.

Among the team’s expected to challenge them are Hydel High, Holmwood Technical and St Jago High.
