The 2014 BVI Athletics Association Track and Field season will kick off at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, January 10 at the A. O. Shirley Recreation Grounds, with meets also scheduled for Capoons Bay and Virgin Gorda for the first time.

The domestic season runs thought the June 7 with the 2nd BVI Twilight Invitational and will also see the association hosting the Leeward Islands Jr. Championships.

The new season will see the BVIAA like its regional counterparts adopting the U18 Division in keeping in line with the IAAF mandate and dropping the U17 Division in all its events. From this year’s April 19-21 Carifta Games in Martinique, the U18 Division comes into effect. The CAC Jr. Championships adopted the format in 2012.

Events for the first competition will target U15, U18, U20 and Open male and female athletes and include the following events: Track; 100m; 400m Hurdles and 800m. Field Events: Triple Jump and Shot Put. Registration is $1 per athlete.

On Saturday, Jan 11, the association will hold its second development meet at 1:00 p.m. in Capoons Bay, targeting U9-U13 athletes. Events include: 1200m for U13. 200m U9, U11 & U13; Shot Put, U13; 60m U9, U11 & U13 and 600m U11 & U13.

Other competitions in January are scheduled for: Jan 17 @ A.O. Shirley Grounds targeting U15-Open; Jan 18, Virgin Gorda, U9-U13. There will be other competitions on Jan 24 and 31.

Admission to BVIAA Development Series meets is $2 per person.
