Jamaica's Briana Williams tests positive for banned substance

Jamaica’s World U20 sprint double champion Briana Williams was in top form at JAC Open in Jacksonville, Florida on the weekend (1 June).

The 17-year-old Williams, who set a Jamaica junior record of 11.10 seconds in the 100m dash, returned minutes later to win the 200m in 22.95s (0.4m/s wind).

Leiya Green, running unattached, was a distant second in 26.14 while Maggie Hartman of Bartram Trail was third in 29.13.

Williams will now turn her attention to the altitude of Albuquerque, N.M. for the Great Southwest Classic, set for this weekend.

“I expect a lot of altitude (benefit), so hopefully to set a new PR and hopefully do my best in the 100 and the 200,” Williams was quoted. “I just hope to have a lot of fun and post great times.”
