Olympic, World Champion and world record holder, Jamaica’s Usain Bolt, disclosed in an interview with the Jamaica Gleaner that he is both nervous and excited about his prospects in Rio. The man, regarded far and wide, as the greatest sprinter of all times, stated that his training has been going well and he expects to not only win but produce a good time.
“Am definitely looking forward to this, it’s my last run. So am both nervous and excited at the same time, because it will be big and important for me.”
The man who has been given his own room in the athlete’s village, stated that he always gets nervous, leading up to the Games, but once he gets to the village with all his colleagues, it just goes away.
Bolt also said that his training has been going well and emphasis was placed particularly on the 200m, as he didn’t get a chance to compete much over that distance this year and needed to do some work on the curve. He also stated that his coach, Glen Mills, is satisfied with the gains made and is confident that Bolt will repeat and once again be dominant.
The world record holder said “with the men, we haven’t really produced a lot of fast times this season. I personally believe we have really underperformed.”
He, however, noted quickly that this is the Olympics and he will not underestimate anyone, as he knows they are all coming prepared.
Asked what kind of time he thinks he will produce given the shape he is in? He stated that he is in 9.6 shape, reiterating that he has been conditioned much better than last year.
In closing, Bolt stated that he is confident in his training and as such he will neither worry or be stressed over what is to come.
