With his triple gold medal haul Usain Bolt (JAM) is now the top gold medal earner in the history of the World Championships with 11 titles (3-100m, 4-4x100m, 4-200m). He is ahead of the next best, Allyson Felix(USA), nine (1-400m, 3-200m, 2-4x100m, 3-4x400m). Coming into Beijing, Bolt was joint top of the tally with eight gold medals, along Felix and Carl Lewis (USA) and Michael Johnson (USA). Another American La Shawn Merritt (USA) is now at eight when he anchored the US 4x400m team to victory in Beijing on Sunday.
Most gold medals in the 200m-4
Bolt became the first man to win four (and four straight as well) 200m titles (2009-2015).
Most medals in the 200m-5
He is first to capture five (and five consecutive as well) medals in the event beginning with his silver in 1997.
Most medals by a male athlete-13
Bolt’s medal tally is now at 13 with the two silver (200m and 4x100m relay in 2007). He is one medal behind the top medallist, Merlene Ottey (JAM/SLO)-14 (3, 4, 7). Allyson Felix (USA) also won 13 medals (9, 3, 1). La Shawn Meritt (USA) is up to 11 (8, 3, 0) along with Veronica Cambpell-Brown (JAM)….11(3, 7, 1).
