Athletes down to compete at the IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019 will share over US$7.5 million in prize money.
In addition to the prize money, athletes who set a world record will be eligible for a special award of US$100,000 offered by TDK and Qatar National Bank (QNB).
The winner of each event will walk away with US$60,000 while relay teams will get US$80,000 to win.
All payments, however, are subject to the usual ratification process.

Not all athletes get money from contracts with Nike and adidas etc. so overall for all Athletes the payout is too low for the most watched sports like track. My son is 12 and already 6’1” and I will not be pushing him into track and field. I am from a country who saw track athletes win gold over and over and their income is nothing compared to other sports. They have to come home to work in other industries to supplement income.
The prize money is too low, I am a track and field man all my life , went to college on track scholarship, so track is my life and I love it , but the low pay for a world championship is low, hence here in America, even while they are still winning ,many people join other sports because of the millions they pay in those sports, if you want to keep and grow track and field more than it is now , pay them for the individual talent they display for being the best in the world , not $60k when other sports pay millions

People need to realize that these athletes dont just live off of prize money..they get most of their money from their apparel sponsorship deals that they sign with the companies such as Adidas, Nike, Puma, Under Armour, Asics, New Balance, etc..and the top end athletes get millions..and then they compete and get prize money and appearance fees for their track meets and championships that they compete in
