According to a story carried by the Gleaner, Powell, absent from the flat event for the first time in his career, spanning four Olympics, said, “We definitely have the team to do it. Over the years, we’ve had great teams and we have managed to run great relays with very little training and time with each other. This year, we are spending far more time working on the relay and with us, every time we go out on the track, a world record is possible in the 4x100m because we are always prepared for it. It’s just to get the stick around smoothly,” he said.

The current world best is 36.84, clocked in London four years ago by Jamaica running, Nesta Carter, Michael Frater, Yohan Blake and Usain Bolt.

  1. Unlikely all of them are far of their best at the moment. Yohan is nowhere near where he was years ago, neither is Asafa (didn’t even make it as an individual) and the other two are slower than the ones that broke the record (okay one of them was a drug cheat).

  2. Powell, Powell, the Jamaican 4×100 team can break their world record and still lose. Powell’s statement makes it clear why an athlete with his gifts never won an individual world championship, and never will.
