STARKVILLE, Miss. – In the 2015 Border Clash, Mississippi State track and field brought home nine individual wins with senior Ocian Archer breaking the 400m hurdles school record.

Archer ran a time of 59.19 to bring home the victory. Jovan Davis also brought home first place in the 400m hurdles with a time of 51.44.

While all MSU athletes provided to the Mississippi teams performance, the state of Mississippi brought home the overall victory 98-93, while the women lost to Alabama 108-81.

Joining MSU in the Mississippi squad were Ole Miss, Southern Miss and Alcorn State. Representing Alabama were Auburn, Samford, Alabama and Alabama State.

“It’s a big excitement for me because it took me a long time to get here,” Archer said. “I’m hoping to get my time dropped down next week to do well for nationals. My goal right now is to make nationals for my individual event, but also get points for my team and do well.” 

Erica Bougard finished first in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.29. Finishing behind Bougard was Ste’yce McNeil (13.75), Tiffany Flynn (13.69) and Archer (14.90) in fourth, fifth and 13th, respectively.

Running a personal-best time of 2:05.00 in the 800m run, Rhianwedd Price finished first, a time that now ranks second in school history.

Bringing home another victory for the Bulldogs was senior Ebony Brinker. Brinker’s win came in the triple jump with a leap of 41-09.25. Flynn followed Brinker in fourth with a jump of 40-07.75. Making his first appearance in the 2015 season, senior Jason Harper earned third place in the triple jump after a leap of 48-10.25.

In the high jump, Marcus Jackson finished first with aclearance of 7-00.25. Seth Peace (6-06.75) placed sixth, while A.J. Ward (6-04.75) finished eighth. On the women’s side, Logan Boss placed second after clearing 5-07, while teammates Deja Givens and Abigail Dill cleared 5-05 to tie for fourth. 

Curtis Thompson recorded a first-place finish for the Bulldogs after a throw of 216-06 in the javelin. Following Thompson was Zachary Taylor (166-02) in sixth and Jaquarius Wilson (152-11) in eighth.

Both MSU 4x400m relay teams earned first place victories to conclude the meet. The women’s team comprised of Archer, McNeil, Kaelin Kersh and Kimari Martin earned the victory with a time of 3:42.71. Scottie Hearn,Charles Taylor, Alfred Larry and Brandon McBride clinched the men’s victory after running a time of 3:07.33. 

Also on the track, with a time of 14.00, Davis finished the 110m hurdles in second. Wesley White (14.62), Arzell McCoy (14.78), Jaquarius Wilson (15.13) and Justin Pizarro (15.26) finished fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively.

Three Bulldogs finished in the Top 10 of the discus throw. Bringing home second place for the men’s team was Tautvydas Kieras with a throw of 182-10. Sasha-Gaye Marston (157-06) placed third on the women’s side, while Haley Reynolds (137-10) finished 10th.

Kieras went on to finish second in the shot put with a throw of 55-05.50.
