Kingston, Jamaica; The 3rd annual CB Group UWI 5K Run/Walk and Smart Egg Kids K, is set and ready to go this Sunday, November 16. The event seems set to be a tremendous spectacle as patrons run and walk to aid student development and the purchase of a Peritoneal Dialysis Cycler for the University Hospital of the West Indies’ (UHWI) Dialysis Unit. Warm up will begin at the UWI Bowl at 6:30 am with race time for the 5K set for 7:00 am.

Families will participate in the event that is tailored for all generations with the first official running of the Smart Egg Kids K. The Kids K is specially designed for children 11 and under and is scheduled for 8:00 am following the 5K to ensure parents and friends can join in cheering on the younger generation as they race the circumference of the combination of fields at the Bowl.

The UWI Mona Bowl has been fitted to facilitate the start and finish of the race as well as the presentation and awards location. Additionally the Bowl will facilitate post race lyming where fellow graduates will get the opportunity to reconnect and reminisce on their days as undergrads on the Mona Campus.

The event is staged by the University of the West Indies through the sponsorship of the CB Group and will bring together students, staff, faculties and halls as the entire University community will work together to ensure the event’s success.

The University Campus will comfortably house patrons and offer security with all activities slated on campus, including pre and post ceremonies, warm ups and post race socialization. Safe parking will be available in the vast main car park and alternative parking areas which several student volunteers and security personnel will be on hand to advise and assist.

The 2014 edition of the race is being held under the patronage of the Honourable Douglas Orane, CD and Mr. Howard Mitchell in honour of race director Alfred ‘Franno’ Francis who has led from the front in advocacy, through road races, for healthier lifestyle practices in Jamaica.

This year the CB Group UWI 5K and Smart Eggs Kids K will seek to double the number of registrants and to raise $15 million to continue funding the scholarship initiative (40 Scholarship recipients to date) as well as to finance the purchase of a Peritoneal Dialysis Cycler for the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) Dialysis Unit. The public is welcome to support the second staging of the CB Group UWI 5K on Sunday, November 16 at 7:00am, through their participation by running or walking or through corporate sponsorship.
