Safiya John was named joint Top Female athlete SCARBOROUGH, Tobago: Anya Akili (Bishops High) and Safiya John (Scarborough Secondary) were both named the top overall female athletes at the Tobago Secondary Schools Track and Field Championships at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet on Feb 24 and 25. Both amassed 40 points after winning four individual medals each. Akili ran away with the girls under 18 100m hurdles, 400m hurdles, high jump and long jump while John secured the girls under 16 100m, 100m hurdles, high jump and long jump. The duo ended the meet with six medals as Akili helped Bishops to gold in the 4x400m and silver in the 4x100m and John was part of Scarborough gold medal under 16 4x400m and silver 4x100m teams. Akili also took the top girls under 18 honours and John the under 16 trophy.   

Ako Hislop (Bishops High) emerged the top male performer at the meet with a similar quadruple gold medal haul in the boys under 18 100m, 200m, 110m hurdles and 400m hurdles. He also anchored Bishops to victory in the 4x100m. 

Chevelle Mc Pherson (UWI-Sixth Form) was the best in the girls over 18 division with 38 points after her victories in long jump, shot put and discus and second place finish in the 200m. 

Jelese Alexander (Mason Hall Secondary) was the topped the field in the girls under 14 class with 36 points following her triumphs in the high jump and long jump and her runner-up placings in the 100m and 200m. Ryan Campbell (Pentecostal Light and Life) was named the top under 14 boys with 31 points. Campbell won the long jump and was second in the 200m, 400m and was fifth in the 100m. Ako Hislop-top Male Performer

Shaquille Benjamin (Bishops High) copped the boys under 16 division with his wins in the high jump, long jump and was second in the javelin. He was also fourth in the 100m. Kerlon Ashby (Scarborough Secondary) copped the highly competitive boys over 18 category with 24 points following his victory in the 110m hurdles, was second in the high jump and third in the javelin. School-mate  Lashawn Roberts was second with 22 points  ahead of Darren Alfred (Signal Hill Secondary) 20 points, Miguel Hackett (Speyside High)/Jo-Randl Reid (Pentecostal L & L) 18 points.
