PRETORIA, South Africa – World record holder Wayde van Niekerk said he doesn’t have “any hurt feelings” about not able to defend his world 400m title in Doha 2019.

Niekerk, who ran a world record 43.03 to win the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, is looking forward to showing “what I’m capable of” on the track, this year, informed the Sowetan Live.

“To be honest, I would have loved to be there, I’m a competitor, and I want to compete against the best in the world,” added the Beijing 2015 and London 2017 World Championships 400m champion.

“I want to improve myself, but I have accepted that I was not able to do it (defend his title in Doha 2019) and I don’t have any hurt feelings that someone took it.

“My time will come, and I will use my opportunity. I’m very hungry to get back to the track and show what I’m capable of,” he said.
