“I still feel 25” says Asafa Powell

Asafa Powell feels a lot younger than his age. He is 35 years old but said he feels a decade fresher.

The former world 100m record holder returned to MVP track club in 2017, four years after leaving the club, at which time, coach Stephen Francis was quoted saying Powell has at least another three years in him.

“I heard that I have a few more years in me, but we will see,” Powell said while adding he will “take it step by step, year by year.”

“I still feel 25 (years old)….I still feel very strong and fresh,” explained the sprinter, who held the world record between 2005 and 2008 with times of 9.77 and 9.74.

Powell, who withdrew from the Cayman Invitational on June 2, said Jamaica Trials (21-24 June) is his “main focus right now to get ready for the trials.”

He withdrew from the Cayman Invitational because “I am not racing sharp, now I just need two to three more weeks of training to be ready to compete.”

Powell, dubbed the sub-10 king with 97 times below the magical barrier, earlier this year pulled out of the Commonwealth Games.

Asked how difficult is it for him to want to continue when plagued by injuries and withdrawals.

“It’s very tough not be able to put out your best every year, seeing that this is what I love, what I do, its quite frustrating, but I manage to stay strong…”

“I think I have more positive things to think about and not let the injuries affect me,” added the two-time World Championships 100m bronze medallist.
