Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce ready for NACAC Championships

Former World and Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce returned to the track on Saturday (5 May), her first competitive race in over a year.

Fraser-Pryce, who gave birth last year, won her section of the JAAA’s All-Comers Meet women’s 100m dash in 11.52s, beating Ashley Williams of GC Foster College, 11.98s.

“Cannot complain! 11.52,” was Fraser-Pryce’s comment on social media.

The fastest time of the day, however, was done by Shericka Jackson, who topped heat 2 in 11.31s ahead of her MVP teammate Shereca Hemmings, 11.88s.

Tyquendo Tracey won the men’s 100m in 10.29 ahead of Jevaughn Minzie, who was credited with the same time. Nesta Carter was 6th in 10.40.

Javon Francis ran ahead with the men’s 200m in 20.60, beating Demish Gaye to the line in 20.79s

Stephenie-Ann McPherson, 23.02s, won the women’s 200m ahead of Janieve Russell, 23.43s and Sherone Simpson, 23.46x.

Russell Clayton, 53.60s, took the top spot in the women’s 400m over Junelle Bromfield, 53.61s.

In the junior girls’ 100m, Tashannia Simpson of Clan Carthy, won in 11.85 ahead of Edwin Allen’s Tia Clayton, 11.89s and Kimone Shaw, running unattached, 12.03s.

Chad Jones of Papine was the top junior boy with 10.67s in the 100m and 22.08s in the 200m.

O’Dayne Richards threw 20.62m to beat Fedrick Dacres, 20.34m, in the men’s shot put. Dacres, on the other side of the field, recorded 66.53m to finish better than Traves Smile, 64.43m and Chad Wright, 62.89m

Tajay Gayle was the men’s long jump winner with 8.02m while Todea-Kay Willis leapt 6.23m in the women’s long jump.
