Elaine Thompson is the Rio 2016 Olympic Games 100m champion.
The 24-year-old sprinter, one of three Stephen Francis-coached athletes in the final, stopped the clock in 10.71 seconds, just short of her national record of 10.70 done to win at Jamaica Trials.
Thompson, who was with the leading pack at the half way stage, separated herself in the last 40 metres to take the top spot. She made sure the title remained in Jamaican hands for the third straight Olympic Games.
Fraser-Pryce, who was chasing Olympics history of becoming the first female to win three straight 100m titles, finished third in 10.86.
American Tori Bowie, who was in the mix at 50 metres, took silver in 10.83. The third Jamaican in the race Christania Williams was back of the pack in eighth 11.80 jogging the last 20m. Michelle-Lee Ahye of Trinidad and Tobago finished in sixth in 10.94

Shelly is brave to run with all that pain..if she was healthy,Bowie would be all alone for third.and the winning time would be 10.6.. I know she’s a Wolmerian, but she lives up to the KC motto.. i tell people said that Oregon track gives people false hope.
Congrats to Elaine for bringing it home and a special respect to Shelly-Ann for showing how a true champion with class she is. I could not be more joyful for the victory for Elaine and the bronze by Shelly-ann despite her toe issue.
Congratulations are in order for Elaine Thompsom and all the best in future trials.
