Kenny Bednarek sent a message in Qatar on Friday, running a World Leading (WL) 19.67, a lifetime best in the Doha Diamond League meeting’s 200m, stamping himself as a favorite for ultimate glory in Paris.

Bednarek was the only person to break 20 seconds. On the day, he bested countrymen and former world leader (19.71) Courtney Lindsey, who finished second in 20.01 on Friday, and Kyree King who ran 20.21.
The perennial runner-up in the half-lap sprint, Bednarek, the Tokyo and Eugene silver medalist, was left off the podium completely in the most recent World Championships in Budapest, finishing fourth behind countrymen Noah Lyles and Erriyon Knighton, and Botswana’s rising giant Letsile Tebogo.
Also in this race was Liberian power sprinter Joseph Fahnbulleh, who glided down the home straightaway with his virtually trademarked top-end speed in 20.26. Canadian fixture Aaron Brown (20.29) was passed by Fahnbulleh in the final meters but managed to hang on for 5th in a season’s best (SB). Jamaican and Budapest finalist was 7th in a SB of 20.53.
