Jamaican Andre Ewers runs 19.98s at ACC Outdoor Champs

Andre Ewers stared at Saturday’s (12 May) Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Cobb Stadium in  Coral Gables, Florida.

Ewers, representing Florida State, blazed to victory in the men’s 100m, running 10.13s.

Defending champion Cravont Charleston of NC State finished second in 10.21, while Seminoles’ Darryl Haraway ran 10.38 for bronze.

Andre Ewers also dominated the men’s 200m with a sub-20 time

Ewers, who only attended Siloah Primary School in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, returned even more forceful in the men’s 200m.

He was quick off the curve and powered down the homestretch to cross the line in 19.98 (+2.3m/s wind), more than a half-second ahead of his nearest competitor.

NC State’s Shannon Patterson finished second in 20.54.

“Andre Ewers is really special,” said Florida State head coach Bob Braman.

“He’s now in rare company as one of the best in the 200 of any school in the NCAA.”

Florida State sprinter Andre Ewers earned ACC Championship Men’s Track MVP honours after racing to gold medals in the 100 and 200 meters.
