ST> GEORGE’S, Grenada – Kirani James and Elaine Thompson-Herah will headline the 2024 Grenada Invitational, officially launched today at the Radisson Grenada Beach Resort in St. George’s. The hometown hero and the Jamaican sprint sensation promise to deliver electrifying performances at this prestigious meet.

Kirani James, who has qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympics, will be a central figure in the event, bringing his world-class talent to the stadium named in his honour. Joining him will be Elaine Thompson-Herah, the five-time Olympic gold medalist and defending 100m and 200m Olympic champion, confirmed to compete in this highly anticipated meet.

This will be Thompson-Herah’s first race of 2024 while James will be searching for his 2nd straight victory after topping the field at the USATF Bermuda Grand Prix on April 28.

The Grenada Invitational will take place on Thursday, June 6th, beginning at 4:30 PM with a national segment showcasing local athletes from Under-13 to Under-20 categories. At 6:00 PM, a special ceremony will honor the 51 athletes who have represented Grenada at the Olympics over the past 40 years, celebrating their contributions to Grenadian sports during the nation’s 50th Independence anniversary.

The international session will commence at 7:00 PM, featuring more Olympic hopefuls and distinguished athletes. Grenadian stars Anderson Peters and Lindon Victor, both qualified for Paris 2024, will join James on the track. Olympic hopefuls Meleni Rodney, Kurt Felix, and Halle Hazzard will also compete, adding to the local excitement.

The event will also feature 2022 Commonwealth Gold Medalist in the 110mH, Rasheed Broadbell, and fellow Jamaican Megan Tapper, the 100mH Bronze Medalist at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. With over 100 athletes participating, the international segment promises high-quality competition.

As the build-up to the Grenada Invitational continues over the next two weeks, the full roster of competing athletes will be revealed via traditional media, press releases, and social media.
