Kemba Nelson, Stacey-Ann Williams, Carey McLeod, Ackera Nugent, Damion Thomas, and Andrenette Knight are the Jamaicans expected to get the closest to gold medals.
Former Mount Alvernia and UTech student Nelson, who broke 11 seconds at the West Regionals for Oregon with 10.98, is predicted to finish second in the women’s 100m.
TeeTee Terry of USC is the most consistent sprinter this season. Her top two times of 10.89 and 10.99 came at NCAA West Regionals.
Williams, formerly of STETHS and now representing Texas Longhorn, is in the best form of her life. She ran a personal best time of 50.34 at NCAA Regionals and should get second in the 400m.
Athing Mu of Texas A&M is the overwhelming favourite, and it will take a miracle for her to lose. She 49.69secs time set new personal best, facility record, and collegiate record at West Regionals.
Ex-Excelsior star Nugent, a freshman at Baylor, is very dangerous in the 100m hurdles. However, LSU’s senior Tonea Marshall is superb and in great form this season. Marshall ran 12.52 at SEC Championships and 12.49 at NCAA East Regionals.
Nugent’s best time of 12.76, the fourth-fastest by a junior on the all-time world list, was done at NCAA West Regionals.
Former Vere standout Andrenette Knight should get her medal in the women’s 400m hurdles.
Kevona Davis out of the top 10 in the 200m?
Also, track and field news predicted that rising Jamaican sprint star and former Edwin Allen standout Kevona Davis will not even make the women’s 200m final.
On the men’s side, Jamaica’s world U20 champion, Damion Thomas, is seen as the silver medal favourite in the 110m hurdles.
Robert Dunning, who is the favourite, best legal times this season are 13.28 and 13.24. Thomas’ best is 13.22
Phillip Lemonious, a former JC athlete, is predicted to finish fourth.
Former KC athlete Carey McLeod, now representing Tennessee, is predicted to take second in the long jump and fourth in the triple jump. Jordan Scott of USC, with a season-best of 16.96m, is picked for third in the triple jump.
Roje Stona of Clemson is picked for third-best in the men’s discus.
If Kemba gets her customary fast start she will win. TT Terry cannot run her down. She easily beat the Sturgis girl in the semi who many predicted to win.
This headline is horrible……. should not be an article here we should promote positivity not negativity
Kemba and Thomas for Gold, my prediction
Thomas is now over his injuries and should will win.
Medals aren’t won on paper
Interesting prediction
They don’t know Jamaicans Suh Mek dem gwaan chat 😎
Track Alerts should have done their own predictions. They have capable people.
The race is not only for the swift but……..
Good to know.
So why they sigle out Jamaica
Fabion Rickman They didn’t single out Jamaica. T&FNews magazine listed their predictions for who would win each event, and then the writer for Trackalerts noticed that none of the predicted winners are Jamaican.
Brent Robinson noted
They are quick to write-off JA athletes. Now, let them eat their words. Go JA.
Steve Steven they have a crystal ball😡
They didn’t single out Jamaicans Track Alerts did that.
Obrien Wasome of Texas is the #1 ranked triple jumper, yet dem nuh picke him fi win. Yes , dem a pick pon wi.
Damion Thomas is my favorite over the 110hh, McLeod in the long jump on the mens side, Nelson is better than she’ve performed, if she put together a complete race she can win(second half of race needs work)
