The MVP Track & Field Club may have uncovered some of the best kept secrets for the upcoming 2019 Jamaican High School Athletics season, at the second MVP Island-wide Grassroots Athletic Training Camp for 2018, held at the GC Foster College on Saturday, November 10, 2018.
On the same day that MVP welcomed the Sports Development Foundation as their newest partners in facilitating the provision of World Class Training to secondary school student-athletes across the length and breadth of Jamaica, the discovery of future stars of the sport may have been revealed.
Garvey Maceo High School won four out of a potential six awards for outstanding performances in the Boys category, led by Zidane Brown who received the top ratings from the technical coaches in the six disciplines conducted at the camp.
MVP Head Coach, Paul Francis, noted, “The discipline shown by these over 120 student-athletes at a training camp as challenging as what we hosted today augers well for the 2019 Digicel Grand Prix Athletic Series and ISSA Boys & Girls Champs next year.”
General Manager of the SDF, Denzil Wilks was impressed with what he experienced at the MVP Training Camp. “This is exactly the kind of programme that the Sports Development Foundation is set up to support”, he stated.
The third of the Advanced Level Training Camps slated for Surrey, will be held inside the National Stadium, Kingston on Friday, November 23rd.
The 12 student-athletes who received Girl and Boy of the Camp awards at this second camp of three for 2018 are: PUMA – Jordane Squire (Holmwood), Davellla Frith (Tacius Golding), Powerade – Kayla Gay Clarke (St. Jago), Kishane Thompson (Garvey Maceo), Reggae Jammin – Daena Dyer (Hydel High), Patrick Chamberlin (Garvey Maceo), SDF – Dayshanae Hall (St. Jago), Shemar Fletcher (Edwin Allen), NCB Foundation – Shanice Walsh (St. Catherine), Ashane Beckford (Garvey Maceo), Digicel – Velecia Williams (Hydel), Zidane Brown (Garvey Maceo). The Digicel coach of the Camp was Barthlett Wray (Aabuthnott Gallimore).
All MVP Training Camps are on a strictly by invitation basis.
