TAMPERE, Finland – Kai Chang won the men’s discus gold medal on Sunday’s (15 July) final day of the 17th IAAF World U20 Championships.
The Calabar student, on his second attempt, threw a personal best 62.36m to take gold ahead of Yauheni Bahutski of Belarus, 61.75m and Claudio Romero of Chili, 60.81m.
Chang’s effort sealed a record four gold medal at these Championships for Jamaica.
Meanwhile, Jamaica’s 4x400m female team of Janielle Josephs, Stacey-Ann Williams, Shiann Salmon and Calisha Taylor, won bronze in a season-best 3:31.90.
The USA won the mile relay gold in 3:28.74 ahead of Australia, 3:31.36.
The bronze took Jamaica’s medal tally to 12, one more than the previous record of 11 achieved when the nation hosted back in 2002.
