Jamaica suffer 4×4 blow at World U20 Championships

TAMPERE, Finland – Jamaica suffered a huge blow on Saturday (July 14) morning. This at the 17th IAAF World U20 Championships.

The men’s 4x400m team had hopes of challenging the world record of 3:00.33 in Sunday’s final. The team, however, was disqualified for a first leg lane violation after crossing the line in second place behind Great Britain and Northern Island 3:07.17.

Malik Smith, Dashawn Morris, Anthony Carpenter and Shermar Chambers, in running order, combined for 3:07.65 in the heats.

Christopher Taylor and Chatnz Sawyers, both medallist in the 400m final, were set to add more power for the final.

The female team of Janielle Joseph, Stacey-Ann Williams, Chrissani May and Calisha Taylor, won their heat in 3:34.22 to secure their place in the final.

Kai Chang threw 59.27m and will enter the men’s discus final with the fourth-best mark.

Lotavia Brown, 12.72m, however, missed out on a place in the women’s triple jump final.
