Strict media guidelines for Whitsuntide Games

The Grenada Athletic Association, the host of Whitsuntide Games 2018, has put in some very strict media guidelines.

Base on the guidelines issued in a press release on 8 May, for the for the meet set for Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th May at the Kirani James Athletic Stadium, media will find some unusual restriction.

These guidelines, especially “moving picture sequences” are not found anywhere, not even at the international level

“Journalists and/or photographers are allowed to use images from GAA events only for publication in editorial text and guarantee not to play any moving picture sequences (maximum sequence is 5 pictures / sec.) on the internet or to publish pictures on the internet which have been electronically modified or adapted. They agree not to sell pictures for commercial or advertising use without the written authorisation of the GAA,” read one of the guidelines.

“On-line journalists are not permitted (unless with approved accreditation) to provide audio or video broadcasts to their respective website at any time, nor are they permitted to provide online scoring/statistics from an internet connection, or any other connection, to their respective website during the game.”

The track and field meet will include a number of national athletes, clubs and schools and strong participation from:

Curacao, Guadeloupe, Antigua, Martinique, Aruba, French Guiana, Cayman Islands, British Virgin Islands, Montserrat, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Trinidad & Tobago and Anguilla

Accreditation is granted subject to the applicant complying with the following Terms & Conditions:
1. Completed accreditation form submitted on time.
2. Accredited media representatives must wear their accreditation at all times.
3. Accreditation cards may only be carried and used by the bearer and may not be assigned or transferred to any other person.
4. Accredited media representatives are only allowed in the designated zones as displayed on the accreditation card.
5. All accredited media representatives have to follow the rules for the Mixed Zone. The Mixed Zone is divided and signposted into four (4) zones (Host Broadcaster/Television Rights Holders; Radio and News Agencies; On-line publications /Television Non-Rights Holders; Written Press).
6. All television interviews must be held in the Mixed Zone in front of the official advertising backdrop.
7. The guidelines and instructions set by the GAA Media Committee must be followed at all times.
8. All photographers are requested to wear the bib and accreditation at all times. The bibs must be returned to the Media Manager at the end of each day.
9. 10. 11. Members and delegates of teams can only use pictures for private use. They must not occupy official photo positions, including medal ceremony area during the awarding ceremony as these are for media only.
12. No video recording is allowed other than TV Rights Holders; official team video persons and non-rights holders with written permission.
13. TV Right Holders agree to use video material from the GAA events only for broadcasting on television (except for such Right Holders with an agreement for internet distribution).
14. Accredited media representatives must behave in an orderly manner – befitting of the Terms and Conditions for GAA and IAAF Events – throughout the competition. Any abusive behaviour or conduct unbecoming will result in expulsion from the venue.
15. The accreditation of any person found to be accredited under false pretences will be invalidated immediately.
