CLEVELAND – Former Jamaican Junior sprinter Kedisha Dallas of the Northern Illinois University women’s track & field team was named Mid-American Conference Track Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday (April 12).
Dallas, formerly of Holmwood and GC Foster College, won the outdoor version of the weekly award after winning two events at the Gibson Invitational at Indiana State last Saturday, taking top prize individually in the 100m dash and topping the podium with the 4x100m relay team as well. She was also named the MAC Track Athlete of the Week once during indoor season on January 12.
The junior from Jamaica needed every millisecond to break the NIU school record in the 100m dash, with her victorious time of 11.531 seconds knocking off A’Iesha Irvin-Muhammad’s previous Huskie best of 11.54 seconds. Dallas also won the event at the Gibson Invitational by an equally narrow margin over Shavonne Husbands of Missouri State.
The sensational sprinter then joined with Irvin-Muhammad, Ashanti Hutton and Cheyenne Hoerr as the NIU 4x100m relay team won the event in convincing fashion at Indiana State’s annual meet with a time of 46.14 seconds.
Dallas and the Huskies will split up this weekend, with the NIU distance runners heading to California for the Mt. SAC Relays on Thursday and Friday while the remainder of the squad competes on Saturday at the Redbird Invitational at Illinois State.
