Karis Jochen named SEC Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year

BIRMINGHAM – Post season awards following the SEC Championships in cross country included Texas A&M junior Karis Jochen receiving the women’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor as voted on by the conference coaches.

Jochen, a local product who competed at A&M Consolidated, finished fifth in the SEC Championships that was held on the Aggies’ Dale Watts course. Jochen holds a 4.0 grade point average in business honors at Texas A&M and this award adds to her collection of academic achievements.

This past track and field season had Jochen earning a position on the 2015 Capital One Academic All-District team. She has also been on USTFCCCA All-Academic teams in track and field for 2014 and 2015 as well as in cross country for 2014.

SEC individual winners Antibahs Kosgei of Alabama and Dominique Scott of Arkansas were each named the conference Runner of the Year while Coach of the Year accolades went to Chris Bucknam and Lance Harter of Arkansas after the Razorbacks swept the team titles for the third consecutive year. 

Freshman Runner of the Year was awarded to LSU’s Dajour Braxton and Vanderbilt’s Caroline Pietrzyk. Christian Heymsfield of Arkansas received the men’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor.
