AUSTIN, Texas – World Championships mile relay gold medallist, Chrisann Gordon is now a student at University of Texas-Austin.
Gordon, who helped Jamaica to gold in the women’s 4x400m at the Beijing World Championships this past August, decided against taking up a scholarship at University of Alabama.
The University of Alabama head coach, Dan Waters had been quoted as saying, “She has world class ability in the 400, and will upgrade us tremendously in that event.
She will be a key major addition to our relay,” concluded Waters about Gordon.
Gordon, who starred at Champs for Holmwood Technical, explained the reason for deciding against Alabama.
“My coach that was coaching me in college (South Plains) got a job at the University of Alabama to be the 400m coach, and that was the reason why I signed to Alabama in the first place,” said Gordon, the 2015 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) indoor national champion in the 600 meters (1:29.19) and the 800 meters (2:15.87).
The South Plains College record holder in the outdoor 400 meters (51.39) and the indoor 400 (52.41), continued: ”He is a good coach but last season I didn't perform the way I wanted to especially at senior trials, and that was due to the lack of attention towards getting me prepared for championships after my College Nationals were over.”
“I decided to go to The University of Texas with a new coach and I think I made the best decision. Track and Field is a short-term career and once something is not working out, I believe an athlete should try something new because we are doing it to benefit ourselves. I am not wasting my time, I am moving forward,” concluded Gordon, the 2014 NJCAA national champion in the 400 meters (51.91).
Gordon has personal best times of
400 Meters (Indoors) – 52.41
400 Meters (Outdoors) – 51.39
600 Meters (Indoors) – 1:29.19
800 Meters (Indoors) – 2:15.87
800 Meters (Outdoors) – 2:04.74
